THE QUESTION
Can we keep description separate from interpretation?
Imagine a conversation about a photograph. One person describes visible details; another immediately supplies a story. The proposed inquiry asks how the discussion changes when those two kinds of statement are recorded separately.

IMAGINED DESCRIPTION
“A chair is beside a window. A cup rests on the table.”
Invented statements for this example; there is no source photograph attached.
POSSIBLE INTERPRETATION
“Someone left in a hurry.”
A story that would require additional information. It does not follow automatically from the imagined description.
OPEN QUESTION
What information would support or challenge that interpretation?
A way to explore it.
A future facilitator could invite participants to describe an image, mark interpretations separately and discuss what additional context they need. This is a suggested discussion format, not a validated assessment or a claim that awareness improves.
Any actual study would need its own design, permissions and appropriate review. This page does not collect responses.
What this example cannot tell us.
It provides no evidence about accuracy, wellbeing, learning gains or long-term change. More detailed descriptions might still be mistaken, and interpreting is not inherently a mistake. The question is whether the basis of an interpretation is visible.
